Front bodice
The front controls bust width, front length, neckline depth, front armhole, and waist shaping.
A bodice block is the foundation for tops and dresses. Its pieces define the shoulder, neckline, armhole, bust, waist, and connection to sleeves or skirts.
The front controls bust width, front length, neckline depth, front armhole, and waist shaping.
The back controls back length, back neckline, shoulder position, back armhole, and waist shaping.
The shoulder seam joins front and back and places the armhole. It must match cleanly before adding a sleeve.
The neckline defines the neck opening and the future finish: facing, binding, collar, or other edge treatment.
The armhole is where a sleeve can be sewn. Its length and curve must be compatible with the sleeve cap.
Darts and waist shaping remove excess fabric and help the bodice follow the body.
Before sewing, check front/back balance, shoulder seams, neckline shape, armhole shape, waist shaping, dart placement, grainline, and sleeve compatibility.
