Waist plus closureThe standard example uses the entered waist with a 4 cm finished width, 3 cm overlap, wearing ease, fold line, and seam allowance.
Folded height is explicit
Finished width controls the sewn band while the cutting piece includes both sides of the fold and allowances.
A waistband transferred from a generated skirt, pants, or shorts pattern can reuse the actual waist target instead of relying on a nominal size.

Waist seam, finished width, ease and overlap
Use the garment waist seam as the main length target. Finished width controls waistband depth, ease changes tightness, and overlap adds the extension required for a button or hook closure.
Straight, contoured, elastic or button overlap
Straight waistbands fold into a rectangle; contoured bands use curve depth and are cut as shaped layers. Elastic and extended-overlap presets provide starting settings for pull-on and closure constructions.
Match the waistband seam to the garment waist
Measure the skirt, pants, or shorts waist along the stitching line after darts, pleats, and seam allowances are accounted for. The waistband attachment seam should match that prepared edge plus only the intended ease.
Check interfacing, closure and contour
Test the waistband with the intended interfacing and closure. For contoured bands, verify the upper-edge fit and curve depth on a test garment; for elastic styles, test stretch and recovery around the body.
A4 tiled PDF, copyshop PDF or SVG
Print at actual size or 100% with scaling disabled and measure the test square first. Use tiled A4 at home, copyshop PDF for a full-size sheet, or SVG for vector editing.

This generator is maintained as application code: measurements are converted into vector geometry, related seams are measured numerically where the construction requires it, and the same geometry is used for preview, SVG, copyshop PDF, and tiled A4 PDF.

Is the custom waistband pattern free?
Yes. Enter the waistband measurements, preview the generated piece, and download it as A4 PDF, copyshop PDF, or SVG without purchasing a fixed-size pattern.
Should waistband length equal body waist circumference?
Not always. Measure the prepared waist seam of the actual skirt, pants, or shorts because darts, ease, seam position, and where the garment sits can make it different from the body waist measurement.
What is the difference between straight and contoured waistbands?
A straight waistband is rectangular and folds lengthwise. A contoured waistband has curved upper and lower edges for closer shaping and is cut as separate layers rather than folded along its length.
How should I size an elastic waistband?
Use the elastic preset and test the elastic around the intended body level. Elastic stretch, recovery, width, and comfort determine the final length, so do not rely on a fixed reduction percentage alone.
How should I print the A4 waistband pattern?
Select actual size or 100%, disable fit-to-page scaling, and measure the 5 × 5 cm test square before assembling or using the printed piece.
