Front placket construction guide
The generator separates the buttonhole and button sides, places fold and cutting lines, and distributes closure markers between controlled top and bottom offsets.
Both pieces share the selected length and finished width while carrying the marks required for their different closure roles.
Finished width describes the sewn placket; fold-under and seam allowance add the material required to construct it.
The first and last button offsets define the usable interval, and the remaining positions are distributed evenly within it.
The marker includes clearance beyond the button diameter and must fit inside the finished placket width in the chosen orientation.

Front closure planning
The generated button and buttonhole strips solve only the closure components. Their length must match the actual garment opening, and their finished width must agree with the neckline, collar stand, hem and center-front design. Establish those interfaces before relying on evenly calculated button markers.
Measure from the finished neckline or collar seam to the finished hem, waist seam or lower opening endpoint. Do not include seam allowances that will disappear into another seam. If the placket ends inside a hem, decide the folding order so the generated strip is neither short nor trapped in excessive bulk.
The buttonhole and button sides must overlap by the intended finished width while preserving the true center front. A wider placket changes visual scale and collar connection; it should not silently add garment circumference. Mark center front separately from the outer fold and stitching edges.
The first and last button positions need clearance from collar seams, waist seams and hem folds. The generator distributes intermediate markers within the selected offsets, but the real button diameter and buttonhole length determine whether those endpoints are practical. Place the actual button on the printed guide before sewing.
Buttons and buttonholes concentrate load on a narrow band. Choose interfacing that supports repeated fastening yet bends with the garment. Test the full folded number of layers: a single fabric scrap does not predict feeding, buttonhole density or finished thickness.
Use a traced front or a short garment sample to verify every boundary that touches the generated strips.
How and when
This generator converts the entered measurements into vector geometry. Where a construction has related seams, the software can calculate their lengths; preview, SVG, copyshop PDF, and tiled A4 PDF are produced from the same geometry. These software checks do not replace printing, sewing, or fitting a test sample.
