Basic skirt block guide
A made-to-measure skirt foundation with darts and waistband
The generator distributes the waist-to-hip difference between side shaping and darts, builds matching front and back side curves, and produces the construction pieces needed for a printable skirt foundation.
Front, back and waistband pieces
The pattern includes front and back skirt pieces, one or two back darts, a front dart, grainlines, hip and side notches, selected allowances, a straight or contoured waistband, and a 5 × 5 cm test square.
Waist, hips, hip depth and skirt length
Waist controls the finished upper edge, hips and ease establish the body width, waist-to-hip depth positions the fullest level, and length places the hem. All four should be measured without adding manual ease.
Side shaping and one or two back darts
The waist reduction is divided between both side seams, the front dart, and the selected back-dart arrangement. Pronounced shaping changes the curve distribution for a larger waist-to-hip difference.
Matched curved side seams
Front and back use the same waist, hip, and hem side geometry. The preview measures both complete Bézier side curves and displays their difference so the sewing relationship can be checked before export.
Straight, pencil, A-line, tapered or flared
Hem shape changes the silhouette while a slit or vent can restore walking room in longer or narrower versions. Choose a straight or contoured waistband and adjust seam, waist, and hem allowances separately.
Full pattern or individual printable pieces
Download the complete skirt or export front, back, and waistband separately. Print A4 pages at 100% with scaling disabled, use copyshop PDF for a full-size sheet, or edit the SVG vector file.

Drafting logic by Nastix Design
This generator is maintained as application code: measurements are converted into vector geometry, related seams are measured numerically where the construction requires it, and the same geometry is used for preview, SVG, copyshop PDF, and tiled A4 PDF.
Generator content and output workflow reviewed 13 July 2026. A generated block remains a fitting starting point; verify measurements, print scale, fabric behaviour, and a test garment.

Basic skirt pattern FAQ
Is this skirt pattern generated from my measurements?
Yes. Standard sizes provide optional starting values, but the waist, hips, hip depth, length, ease, darts, side shaping, hem, opening, and waistband are recalculated from the submitted settings.
How are the skirt darts calculated?
The generator calculates the reduction from the eased hip width to the waist, assigns part of it to the side seams, and distributes the remainder between one front dart and either one or two back darts.
What is the difference between one and two back darts?
One back dart creates a simpler foundation. Two darts divide stronger waist shaping across the back and can produce a smoother transition when the waist-to-hip difference is larger.
When should I add a slit or vent?
Consider an opening for longer, pencil, or tapered skirts where the hem width may restrict walking. The generator supports no opening, a simple slit, or a vent with an adjustable length.
How should I print the A4 skirt pattern?
Print at actual size or 100%, disable fit-to-page scaling, and measure the 5 × 5 cm test square before trimming and joining the tiled pages.
