Tank top pattern

Create a tank top sewing pattern from your measurements

Generate a free printable women's knit tank top pattern using your chest, hips, garment length, strap, armhole, and neckline measurements. Choose a classic, fitted, scoop-neck, or cropped style, then download an A4 PDF, copyshop PDF, or SVG with seam allowances and bindings included.

Important fit note

Patterns generated by Nastix Patterns are calculated base drafts created from your measurements and selected settings.

We strongly recommend checking the 5 x 5 cm test square, making a test version, and verifying fit before cutting final fabric.

Knit stretch, binding recovery, body shape, and preferred fit can change the result and may require manual adjustments.

Real generated example

From body measurements to a tank top with matched bindings

Body plus bindings

This live example generates front and back tank pieces together with separate neckline and armhole bindings. Every curve and strip comes from the measurements below.

Measurements used

Chest
92 cm
Hips
100 cm
Top length
58 cm
Strap width
5.5 cm
Armhole depth
22 cm
Front neck drop
13 cm
Binding width
2.5 cm
Binding ratio
0.88

The binding ratio is applied to the measured sewing lines, not to a generic size chart. The result must still be tested in the chosen knit because recovery varies by fabric.

Generate your tank top

Test the binding ratio in the intended knit before finishing the final neckline and armholes.

Generated tank front, back, neck binding, and armhole binding

Checks performed by the generator

Body balance

Straps and side seams match

The shoulder-strap difference is 0.0 mm and the side-seam difference is 0.0 mm.

Neck binding

Calculated for the measured neckline

The 61.8 cm neckline produces a 54.4 cm binding at the selected ratio, with a 0.0 mm calculation difference.

Armhole binding

A separate matched strip

The measured armhole is 48.0 cm and its finished binding is 42.3 cm, with a 0.0 mm difference from the calculated target.

Pattern details

Creates

Front, back, neck binding, armhole bindings

The tank top draft creates sleeveless body pieces plus separate knit bindings for the neckline and both armholes.

Pieces

Shoulder straps, side seams, neckline, armholes

The key sewing relationships are shoulder strap to shoulder strap, side seam to side seam, binding to neckline, and binding to armhole.

Measurements

Chest, length, strap, armhole, neckline

Chest and ease set body width, strap width controls shoulder coverage, and neckline drops control round, scoop, or V-neck shapes.

Check

Binding ratio and seam matching

Check shoulder and side seams, binding lengths, print scale, and knit stretch before cutting final fabric.

Tank top sewing guide

From body measurements to a printable knit tank top pattern

The generator drafts the sewing lines first, matches the pieces that are sewn together, and then adds the selected seam and hem allowances. Use the sections below to choose suitable settings and prepare the pattern for sewing.

Included

Four ready-to-print pattern pieces

The download contains a front and back cut on the fold, one full neckline binding, and an armhole binding cut twice. A 5 × 5 cm test square is included for checking print scale.

Measurements

Chest, hips, length, straps and openings

Chest and ease control the upper body width; hips and hem ease control the lower edge. Strap width, armhole depth, neckline width, and front and back neck drops shape the upper opening.

Fabric

Designed for stretch knit fabric

Use jersey or another knit with reliable recovery. The binding ratio shortens the bindings so they sit flat, but the best ratio depends on the stretch and recovery of the actual fabric.

Compatibility

Matching shoulder, side and binding seams

The generated draft checks front and back shoulder lengths, curved side seams, the complete neckline, and each full armhole against its binding before export.

Printing

A4, copyshop PDF and SVG output

Print tiled A4 pages at 100% with scaling disabled, then measure the test square before joining pages. Copyshop PDF provides one full-size sheet, while SVG supports vector editing.

Fit

Test before cutting final fabric

A calculated pattern cannot account for every posture, bust shape, or knit behavior. Sew a test version and check the neckline, armholes, body ease, and finished length before using final fabric.

Who, how, and when

Drafting logic by Nastix Design

This generator is maintained as application code: measurements are converted into vector geometry, related seams are measured numerically where the construction requires it, and the same geometry is used for preview, SVG, copyshop PDF, and tiled A4 PDF.

Generator content and output workflow reviewed 13 July 2026. A generated block remains a fitting starting point; verify measurements, print scale, fabric behaviour, and a test garment.

Common questions

Tank top pattern FAQ

Is the tank top sewing pattern free?

Yes. You can enter your measurements, preview the generated pattern, and download A4 PDF, copyshop PDF, or SVG files without purchasing a standard size pattern.

Is this a standard-size or custom-measurement pattern?

You may start from an XS–XL preset, but the final pattern is recalculated from the measurements and drafting options entered in the form.

What fabric should I use for the tank top?

The pattern is intended for knit fabric such as cotton jersey. Use fabric with suitable stretch and good recovery, especially for the neckline and armhole bindings.

How is the binding length calculated?

The generator measures the complete generated neckline or armhole seam and multiplies it by the selected binding stretch ratio. Make a sample because different knit fabrics recover differently.

How do I print the A4 tank top pattern?

Print at actual size or 100%, disable fit-to-page scaling, and measure the 5 × 5 cm test square before taping the tiled sheets together.
